This period from 1950 - 2000 has changed the world forever.
So much happened in Computers that it is useful to go year
by year. I am using
The History
of Computing Project,
Wikipedia and the knowledge of
friends and myself to complete this work (and
correct/complete some of the History Project facts).
For reference, I started in the industry in the
mid-1960s as did some of my
geezer friends. We have
heard so many incorrect prognostications (for example,
we don't need more than 10 computers, we don't need
more than 640KB memory, we don't need computers at
home), that it's fairly clear that we are in a
revolution and no one really knows what the world will
look like 50 years from now (and I mean in all
respects).
I have separate sections on Communications and the
Internet, but they are so intertwined with the advances in
Computing technology, that the timelines below include
these subjects too where appropriate.
